Code of Ethics.

Belongings Therapy is a guided reflective practice designed to help individuals explore their emotional lives through their personal belongings. It is not clinical therapy, diagnosis, or mental-health treatment. It is a supportive space for insight, reflection, and storytelling.

1. Respect and Dignity

Every person is honored as the expert of their own experience.
Participants are treated with respect, compassion, and unconditional regard. The goal is to create an environment of safety, curiosity, and non-judgment.

2. Autonomy and Empowerment

Belongings Therapy encourages self-reflection and personal authorship.
Participants choose what to share, what to explore, and when to pause.
No one is pressured to disclose more than they wish.

3. Boundaries and Scope

Facilitators of Belongings Therapy are not acting as licensed mental-health professionals.
Sessions are intended for self-discovery and meaning-making, not for clinical diagnosis, treatment, or crisis intervention.
If a participant is in distress or requires professional help, referrals to licensed professionals will be encouraged.

4. Confidentiality and Privacy

Personal stories and reflections shared in sessions or written in Belongings Logs are confidential.
Facilitators will not share participant information or stories without explicit consent.
Participants are encouraged to respect their own privacy and that of others when sharing stories publicly.

5. Integrity and Transparency

Facilitators will represent their role honestly, as reflective guides, not clinicians.
All materials, fees, and expectations will be clearly communicated.
Feedback is welcomed, and continuous improvement of the Belongings Therapy process is valued.

6. Cultural and Personal Sensitivity

Belongings are deeply tied to identity, culture, and memory.
Facilitators honor the diverse meanings, histories, and emotions attached to objects.
No interpretation will ever be imposed; understanding emerges collaboratively.

7. Emotional Safety

Because belongings can evoke powerful memories, participants are reminded they may pause or redirect at any time.
Gentleness, patience, and grounding are central to every conversation.
